Barton Creek Cave
Offers a beautiful day trip at "Mike's Place" deep in the heart of our Belizean jungle! Upon arrival you will be greeted by our friendly, experienced tour guide and will be equipped with spot lights and life vests to begin your cave adventure via canoe! Barton Creek Cave is a living cave in that it is still growing and developing with 10 ft. of water flowing constantly throughout.... The ancient Mayans believed that their Gods would reside in such places and Barton Creek Cave in particular because of its abundance of water. The Mayan God Chac (God of Water) was believed to occupied the cave. When ever the Mayan people were going through a draught or needed a good rain for crops they would paddle into Barton Creek Cave and sacrifice young virgins whom where thought to be suitable gifts to the Gods.... The Mayans believed the cave was an opening or gate way into the underworld and treated it with great fear and respect.
